January 20 - 24

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been working hard on math.  His goal this year is to review many concepts that he has learned over the years as well as learn new math he did not get to yet.  He is doing this by using the "Learn Math Fast" books.  He has been flying through the books and is more confident in his math skills than ever before.  He also continues to practice math facts using an app for 10 minutes every day just to keep his skills up because this helps him solve more complex problems much easier.  He is doing great and is so proud of the progress he has made this year!

MARISSA

Marissa finished reading "The Keeper of the Bees" for her Georgics class.  She loved it and was surprised with the many plot twists and turns.  She said, "This is such a wholesome book, but also a page turner.  There were so many times I just could not put it down."  It has become one of her favorites.  She also participated in the book discussion in her class, which was so fun and entertaining.  She loves book discussions and gets so much from them.

CALEB

Caleb learned about emulsifiers in his Ninja Scholars book called "The Science of Cooking."  He made a cheese sauce using lemon juice and baking soda and then we added 1/2 cup of milk and shredded cheese.  It made a delicious cheese sauce that stayed in a liquid form the whole time.  We didn't know much about this, but using the lemon juice and baking soda before melting the cheese down worked perfectly!  He made homemade cheese fries with a baked potato and this new cheese sauce.  Such a fun meal!
