December 9 - 13

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished the movie poster for his Digital Media Arts class.  That one was more difficult for him, and he struggled to be okay with it being good enough, but he turned it in and got 100%.  His teacher was impressed with what he was able to do with his own photos and one stock photo (the wave).  He is learning so much about PhotoShop and Illustrator this semester!

MARISSA

Marissa finished reading "The Long Winter" for her Georgics class.  She loved it!  She had already read two of the books in the Little House series, but now she is eager to read all of them.  Her favorite character is Pa.  She loves Pa because he is protective of the family, wise and kind.  She also loves that he is so good with animals.

CALEB

Caleb was able to participate in JABiztown.  His job was Salesman at CompuTech.  He had really hoped to work at Chick-fil-A or UPS, so he was a little disappointed when he found out, but he ended up loving his job.  He had a great time and learned so much about how an economy works.

Marissa was about to participate as well.  Her job was attorney with City Hall.  She was responsible for taking business licenses around to all of the businesses, which was a big part of the funding the city received for their own bills.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been doing a lot of research on Australia as part of his language arts assignments.  He wrote an essay about Australia this week.  He did a really good job and learned so much.  We have a neighbor who will be leaving for Australia in a few weeks.  He was so excited to share some of his research with his friend.

MARISSA

Marissa read the book "Bendigo Shafter" for her Georgics class.  She loved it!  Her least favorite part was the 12 year old girl falling for 18 year old Bendigo.  Thankfully, he left for a few years before they were reunited again.  Her favorite part of the book was how people work together to build a community.  She also loved how Bendigo was so humble and kind.

CALEB

Caleb has been working really hard on his math and language arts.  He is working on adding and subtracting decimals and is now learning to multiply and divide them.  He has been able to skip several lessons in his CTC math because he got over 80% on the comprehensive pre-test.
