WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston got to work a little bit on building and painting the set for his Anastasia play this week.  Every student is required to put in some volunteer hours building the set and all the parents have to help with volunteer responsibilities as well.  It was a lot of fun and is exciting to see the set coming together so well.  He's looking forward to the play performances the first week in May.

MARISSA

Marissa read the book "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" for her book colloquia this week.  She loved the book so much and had a great time at the book discussion.

CALEB

Caleb attended Mrs. Cavanaugh's with his Ninja Scholars class.  They are reading Milton Hershey this month and got to visit a real chocolate factory.  Caleb had a great time and loved getting to choose some candy at the end of the tour!

MARISSA

Marissa read the book "Hiroshima" for her Heroes class and had a book discussion in class.  It was emotionally a difficult book to get through, but she said she is still glad she read it and she learned so much about the impact an atomic bomb could have on humans and other types of life.

CALEB

Caleb had his blue belt test for karate this week.  He did such a great job and worked so hard to prepare!  He will be earning his purple belt at the belt ceremony this coming Tuesday.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been reading the Percy Jackson books again this year.  He just finished book 4 in the series.  He really likes reading fantasy books.  His favorite series is Lord of the Rings, but he is really enjoying rereading Percy Jackson and plans to read the Heroes of Olympus series next.

MARISSA

Marissa gave her presentation on her WWII interviews.  She interviewed three different people about WWII.  One was the son of a WWII veteran who is no longer here.  The second one was the wife of the WWII veteran who is 100 years old today.  The third one was a woman who grew up in Germany, but now lives in Utah.  She was 7 years old when the war broke out in Germany and had so many stories to share with Marissa.

CALEB

Caleb made an awesome balloon car in his afternoon Thursday class.  He was so excited to work on more building and engineering projects and for his car to actually work fairly well.

March 4 - 8

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston continues to work hard on his language arts and math.  Both subjects are a huge focus for him this year.  He also started his finance class now that his driver's ed class ended.

MARISSA

Marissa participated in the national clogging competition at Thanksgiving Pointe this week.  She got 4 1st place pins for all four solos she performed, earning her the "Master Soloist" award.  Her team also got 1st place for their Holler dance (the one in the construction outfit).  It's been so fun to watch her work so hard in a new sport and achieve so much in such a short amount of time.

Marissa also found out that she got the lead in her Shakespeare play.  They will be performing "As You Like It" with a western theme.  She got the part of Rosalind!  She is SO EXCITED!!  She has 250 lines to learn so she's going to be busy the next 6 weeks!

CALEB

Caleb gave a presentation in his Ninja Scholars class this week.  He chose to do his presentation on Argentina because that is where his dad was born.  He did such a good job teaching the class about the land and culture of the country.  He also made homemade empanadas all by himself to share with the class after his presentation.  They were delicious!
