February 27 - March 3

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished reading "Flags of Our Fathers" for his Heroes class.  It was about Iwo Jima.  He really enjoyed it and had a good time participating in the book discussion in class.  

Preston also had the opportunity to attend "SpongeBob the Musical" this week.  His friend, Kenneth, was part of the cast so he went to watch and support him.  It was great!



MARISSA

Marissa has decided to make a quilt for her dolls using leftover fabric scraps that her grandma gave her.  She did a great job and loves creating random projects like this! 





CALEB

Caleb had a really fun class for Heroic Youth this week!  He got to make an animal habitat diorama and tell the class about what he made.  He wanted to create the habitat for a dhole since that is his favorite animal so he created an Asian forest with grasslands.  It turned out very cool!  


OTHER

WINTER FORMAL

Preston and Marissa had a great time at Winter Formal this year!  Preston was part of the committee to decorate so he spent three hours in the morning transforming the room into a space that looked like "A Night Under the Stars."  They bot had a great time and got to practice their dances from their social dance class.  



February 20 - 24

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been working on interviews for his heroes project.  He interviewed a lady who lived in Germany during WWII whose husband was a spy for the US military.  It was so interesting.  He's looking forward to putting his project and presentation together with the interviews and research he does.  

MARISSA

Marissa got to go shooting for her Wilderness Survival class.  They learned about gun safety and how to load a .22 rifle and then shot at a target to see how good their shot was.  It was a cold day, but Marissa loved it!  She is super fast at loading ammo and readying her shot.  


CALEB

Caleb made a rubber band car from a TinkerCrate for his tech class this week.  He had such a great time testing different areas to see how fast and how far he could get it to go.

February 13 - 17

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been working on his project for Georgics.  He has decided to learn to knit and crochet this semester.  He is working on loom knitting a scarf for his first project.  

MARISSA

Marissa has been working on journaling the Constitution for her Key of Liberty class.  She is learning so much about our country and the way it works through this process.  She also had the opportunity to go the State Capitol and have a tour of the Capitol as well as sit in on a committee meeting for a bill that is being considered during the legislative session.  She learned so much!



CALEB

Caleb had a really fun class celebrating Valentine's Day this week in Heroic Youth.  He learned all about the history of Valentine's Day from a really cool book called "The Story of Valentine's."  He also got to make his very own fancy Victorian Valentine with lace and beads.  He had a great time! 





February 6 - 10

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished reading "The Hiding Place" for his Heroes class.  He also watched the movie "Dunkirk."  He is learning so much about WWI and WWII. 

MARISSA

Marissa participated in the Shakespeare feast this week.  She got to be at the main table because she was crowned a queen in the fall.  We all had stew, fruit, cheese, crackers and roasted apples and pears with cream for dessert.  It was a great evening! 





CALEB

Caleb had a really fun class this week in Heroic Youth.  He learned about disabilities.  He read a book about a girl who climbed the stairs of the White House using only her arms to show the need for access for people in wheelchairs.  He also read a book about a boy in Ghana who was born with only one leg.  He would hop all the way to school, which was over three miles.  He and his peers learned a little about what it  might be like to be blind, deaf or to not have legs or arms to use.  It was a really meaningful class.  



OTHER

YELLOWSTONE

We took a trip to Yellowstone this week.  The kids got to sled, go snowmobiling, build snow caves and play in the hot tub.  We had a great time!

January 30 - February 3

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished reading "Girl of the Limberlost" for his Georgics class.  He really liked the book and can't wait for their book discussion! He's also been doing a lot of research for his Heroes project and will be conducting interviews starting next week.  

MARISSA

Marissa finished reading "Fifty Five Fathers" for her Key of Liberty class.  She participated in the book discussion during class.  

Marissa also participated in the Shakespeare feast.  She was a queen because she read, listened to or watched 17 Shakespeare plays last semester.  It was a great event and she definitely felt like royalty.  esentation on her during class.  She did such a great job! 

CALEB

Caleb started reading Sophie Mouse books.  He finished the first one in the series and started reading book 2 this week!  He's also been working a lot on his language arts lessons.
