January 13 - 17

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston has been working hard on his language arts.  His goal is to finish two levels this year, and to review many concepts for any tests he may end up taking for college or continuing education.  He has done a lot of sentence diagramming, and learning proper sentence structure through dictation and extra spelling practice.  He also writes poems, short stories and essays regularly as part of his studies.

MARISSA

Marissa finished reading "The Rent Collector" for youth colloquia.  She wasn't sure she would like it, but once she got started she could not put it down.  She said she loved it, and immediately told all her family and friends that they have to read the book.  She also participated in the book discussion and said it was so great, although she didn't love the exactly love the team activities they used to demonstrate concepts from the book.

CALEB

Caleb made cornbread to go along with the geography study of the United States, particularly the south.  He wasn't sure he wanted to make authentic cornbread - he was hoping to make one that was a little more like cake with sugar.  But he ended up LOVING it and took it to school for his Ninja Scholars class.  He loves making food and learning new recipes!
