October 29 - November 2

MATH

Preston:

Preston completed five assignments in his math book this week.  He is still working on story problems. He also got some practice learning to play chess by a really cool helper named Hiro (pronounced Hero...super appropriate) while we were at the Tree House Museum.  He and Marissa had a blast! 

Marissa:

Marissa completed five assignments in her math book this week.  She is still working on story problems.  She gets a little confused about whether or not she needs to add or subtract for the problem, but she is starting to catch onto the words like "difference," "more" and all together.  She also got to practice her chess-playing skills at the Tree House Museum.  Hiro was an awesome chess mentor!

Caleb:

Caleb completed four assignments in his math book this week.  We have been working on basic math skills, but we have loved the math book Marissa and Preston use so much that we decided to get him the beginning math book.  We will be starting math lessons in his new math book next week.   

LANGUAGE ARTS

Preston:

Preston completed five assignments in his language arts book this week.  One of his lessons was to write an acrostic poem using his name and then one using the word SPRING (I was wishing it was FALL instead of spring since we're in the middle of autumn, but we went with the lesson).  He had a difficult time figuring out how to start his poem so I helped him come up with some ideas for his name and then he did the SPRING poem by himself.   

Marissa: 

Marissa completed five assignments in her language arts book this week.  She was so excited to finally get to read from the reader that comes with her language arts book.  

Caleb:

Caleb completed four assignments in his language arts book this week.  He really enjoys the activities that help him practice letters and sounds.  

HISTORY (WORLD GEOGRAPHY)

Preston, Marissa & Caleb:

We took a field trip to the Tree House Museum this week to visit some of the countries and continents we have learned about so far.  The kids loved it and even got chosen to be part of the partici-play called "The Little Old Woman Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything."  

We also had a Halloween party with our co-op friends.  Caleb was a ninja, Marissa was a princess (Elena of Avalor) and Preston was a minion.  

TECH (BUILDING & ENGINEERING)

Preston:

Preston built with Legos for building and engineering this week.  He and Caleb built a big house with a window and a door.  

Marissa (and Caleb):

Marissa's Kiwi Crate didn't arrive with Caleb's so Marissa helped Caleb make his bird costume this week.  They both took turns trying it on and learning about birds.

OPTIONAL (PE)

Preston:

Preston participated in morning yoga each day and also attended his karate class three days last week.  

Marissa:

Marissa participated in morning yoga every day and also attended her tumbling class on Thursday.  

Caleb:

Caleb participated in morning yoga every day and also started his new karate class.  He was SO EXCITED to finally get to go to class.

OTHER

Preston: 

Preston had a Halloween piano recital this week and did AMAZING!

Marissa: 

Marissa got to practice her spooky piano skills during her Halloween party in keyboard class.  

Caleb:

Caleb had a Halloween party in his Musikgarten class this week also.  He was so excited!

*All three kids had a blast a couple weeks ago at our field trip to Black Island Farms!  It's hard to keep up with all the fun things we are doing and learning.
