November 5 - 9

MATH

Preston:

Preston completed 5 lessons in his math book this week.  He is working on converting units of measurement and is also working on 3 digit addition and subtraction problems with carrying and borrowing.   Preston also had questions about big numbers this week so we spent some time learning about large numbers.  He is keeping the paper to remind him how much money he wants to make when he grows up.  ;)  We also read a book called "Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?"

Marissa: 

Marissa completed 5 lessons in her math book this week.  She is learning a lot about telling time right now.  She also had story problems again this week.  She really loves making up her own story problems.   

Caleb:

Caleb completed 4 lessons in his math book this week.  He is working on number recognition, counting to 100 and adding two numbers up to 10.  He loves math and can often be heard asking his siblings math problems.  

LANGUAGE ARTS

Preston:

Preston completed 5 lessons in his language arts book this week.  He has been learning the concept of base words and how they change to past tense when adding ed.  He also learned about adding ing.   

Marissa:

Marissa completed 5 lessons in her language arts book this week.  She loved the paintings she got to narrate about this week.  It had lots of shadows and light and she made up an amazing story about the family that lived on the farm.   

Caleb:

Caleb completed 4 lessons in his language arts book this week.  He loves playing the games they recommend in the book.  This week he played a game slapping a letter after I made the sound and seeing how quickly he could find the correct letter.  He loved it! 

HISTORY (WORLD GEOGRAPHY)

Preston, Marissa & Caleb:

This month we are studying North America for world geography class.  This week we learned about Mexico.  We read lots of awesome books, practiced some Spanish words, ate taquitos for lunch with Mariachi music playing in the background, and painted colorful sombreros.  We also watched a YouTube video with fun facts about Mexico and learned a little bit about the Aztecs and Mayans.  

TECH (BUILDING & ENGINEERING)

Preston, Marissa and Caleb:

Preston, Marissa and Caleb got new building material called Noobs this week.  They had a blast building all sorts of creations with them (both from the instructions that came with them and using their imaginations).  Their favorite was a giant mech made to walk on land and become a ship in water.  (I'm not sure what happened to the picture of Marissa, but she was part of the building process as well).  

OPTIONAL (PE)

Preston:

Preston attended karate class four days last week.  He loves it and even won his partner during sparring on Thursday.  He also participated in morning yoga (although it is definitely not his favorite part of school). 

Marissa:

Marissa attended tumbling last week.  She also participated in morning yoga every day and even helped lead it once.  She loves the book called "Yoga Bug" and often helps me get started if I am finishing cleaning up from breakfast when it is time to start yoga.   

Caleb:

Caleb attended karate class two days last week.  He loves karate and practices his moves everywhere (even though he's been instructed to only practice in class - we're working on that part since karate is so new for him and he's an overly excited 5 year old boy).  Caleb also participated in morning yoga every day.
