MATH

Preston:
Preston completed 5 assignments in his math book this week.  He is working a lot on borrowing and carrying with multiple digit addition and subtraction.  He is really starting to catch on after multiple books and ways of trying to teach the same concept over and over.  Yay!!

Marissa:
Marissa completed 5 assignments in her math book this week.  She is working on time and money right now.   She and Caleb also did a lot of review work using math manipulatives and tweezers.

Caleb:
Caleb completed 4 assignments in his math book this week.  Math concepts are pretty easy for Caleb right now so we are focusing on writing numbers now.  He has a new pencil grip to help him really learn to hold the pencil correctly and form numbers properly.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Preston:
Preston completed 5 assignments in his language arts book this week.  He also wrote gratitude letters.  His friend left him a note when he was having a bad day and Preston wrote him back.  It was extremely sweet and heartfelt.

Marissa:
Marissa completed 5 assignments in her language arts book this week.  She also wrote letters to her friends to express her gratitude to them.

Caleb:
Caleb completed 4 assignments in his language arts book this week.  He is really grasping the concepts of letter sounds and putting them together phonetically so we are focusing more on handwriting with letters for awhile to improve his fine motor skills.

HISTORY (WORLD GEOGRAPHY)

Preston, Marissa & Caleb:
We learned about the United State in world geography this week (an impossible task to break down in only one week of study).  We focused on a brief overall history of the United States that we read in an adorable book called "Sweet Land of Liberty."  Then we talked about pilgrims and Indians with a focus on learning about Indians this week and pilgrims early next week.  We will be holding a little Thanksgiving party early next week with our friends from our co-op and will finish learning about the early settlers with a fun "finger food feast."  We will also have the kids put on a little play and act out the first Thanksgiving.

We watched a fun YouTube video that explains how Indians in the northeastern United States lived called "The Wamponoag Way."  We also watched a YouTube video about pilgrim life.  We read a few books about different types of Native American houses and then made our own paper bag teepees.  We finished off our class playing in Marissa's pink and white teepee in the family room.  What a great class!

TECH (BUILDING & ENGINEERING)

Preston:
Preston built an awesome dragon with Lego's this week.  The dragon had moveable parts and was made from random Lego's Preston had in his bin.  He continued to work on it to improve it throughout the week.  It was amazing!

Marissa:
Marissa made scented markers this week.  She had so much fun following the instructions to create her own colors and scents.  It was a super fun activity for her!

Caleb:
Caleb finished his bird from his Koala Crate this week.  He also made a really fun Lego that he created all by himself.  He loves the moveable parts and the makeshift spear that actually shoots (made from part of a fish).  It was fun to see how far he has come in his abilities to build and create without help from his older siblings.

OPTIONAL (PE)

Preston:
Preston attended his karate class this week.  They only held class for two days because of belt testing.  He can't wait until the next belt testing when he will be able to move up to a different belt color.

Marissa:
Marissa attended her tumbling class this week.  She loves it!

Caleb:
Caleb attended his karate class this week.  It is amazing how quickly he is learning and improving and how well karate is helping him focus and listen.
