February 11 - 15

MATH

Preston:

Preston completed four assignments in his math book this week.  He is beginning to learn multiplication facts and continues to review multi-digit addition and subtraction problems.   

Marissa:

Marissa completed four assignments in her math book this week.  She was introduced to perimeter this week and caught on right away.  She really enjoys math and likes trying to work out problems in her head before she does them on paper.   

Caleb:

Caleb completed two assignments in his math book.  He is still working on numbers and counting to 20 in his book, but he can count much higher.  His biggest challenge is writing so we practice writing numbers as much or more than we practice actually figuring math facts since math computation is much easier for him at this point in his development.  

LANGUAGE ARTS

Preston:

Preston completed four assignments in his language arts book.  He had several assignments that had us reassess his reading level.  He has improved so much!  His reading speed improved by 30 seconds on most assessments.  He's feeling so much more confident and picking up on spelling and grammar as well.  We are also making sure he gets a lot of practice reading out loud so he often reads to Caleb and sometimes to Marissa as well.   

Marissa: 

Marissa completed two assignments in her language arts book this week.  We are slowing down to go back and do extra phonics and reading assignments from other sources.  We went back to review Bob books this week and will continue for a couple weeks until she has reviewed and read all of them.  We will also review Mat and Sam books from other easy readers we have used in the past to help work on her reading retention skills.   

Caleb:

Caleb completed two assignments in his language arts book this week.  He also worked on alphabet letter puzzles and did some handwriting activities for the letter A and the letter T.  

HISTORY (WORLD GEOGRAPHY)

Preston, Marissa & Caleb:

This week we had a Valentine's party during our co-op class.  We talked about the history of Valentine's day and watched a YouTube video about it.  We also read a couple of fun Valentine's books, made candy bracelets, a cupid bear and ate a heart cookie.  My kids also made "Cupid's Cottage" from a kit that was given to them by their grandmother this week.   

TECH (BUILDING & ENGINEERING)

Preston:

Preston built his Valentine's box for building and engineering this week.  He made it all by himself except for getting help with the hot glue gun to make pipe cleaners stay in place.  He decided to build an evil minion for his box using a cylinder as a starting point since we had an old hot chocolate container in the recycling bin.   

Marissa:

Marissa came up with her very own idea for a Valentine's box this year and also made it all by herself.  She used one of her Kiwi Crate boxes and turned it into a Shopkins purse that she called "Pretty Purse."  That may or not be a real ShopKins.  I have no idea.  It was adorable and I loved seeing how independent she is getting building and creating on her own.  

Caleb:

Caleb decided he wanted a Wall-E box for Valentine's this year.  This was a big project for him so the whole family got involved and we made an awesome Wall-E box that Caleb adores! 

OPTIONAL (PE)

Preston:

Preston attended karate class three times this week.  He is working on passing off skills so he will be ready for his belt test next month.   

Marissa:

Marissa attended tumbling this week.  She is trying to decide if she wants to join the competition team next year.  We're all a little nervous.  She loves it and I don't want the competitive side of the sport to negatively impact her love of tumbling.  We have a few months to decide, but hopefully she will know what is best for her going forward.   

Caleb:

Caleb attended karate class two times this week.  He is getting better at paying attention and focusing and picks up on the moves quickly.
