January 16 - 20

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston read "Children of the Dust Bowl" for his Heroes class this week.  He really enjoyed learning about that part of the United States during the 1930's.  

He also worked on editing a video for his filming and editing class.  He took an old video he had filmed and shortened it down quite a bit to give a very different feel to the video.  It turned out great! 

MARISSA

Marissa found out she got the part of Jasmine in the play Aladdin Kids.  She is so excited and works on her songs and lines every chance she gets! 

She watched the movie "A More Perfect Union" in her Key of Liberty class last week and has been doing research for an upcoming presentation she will be giving in class. 


CALEB

Caleb spent some time building with Legos this week while the family listened to "The Secret Garden" to prepare for the colloquia.  Caleb loves building with Legos. 

Caleb has been earning time on Adventure Academy playing educational games after finishing his regular schoolwork.  He loves it and is learning so much!

January 9 - 13

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston read "Dream Giver" for his Heroes class.  He LOVED it!  He also got a couple other motivational type of books that a friend recommended that he plans to read.   

Preston has decided to learn to knit and crochet this semester for his Georgics project.  He started by learning on a loom and his sister taught him the basics.  He wants to make a scarf, but realized after that his scarf wasn't wide enough so he turned it into a little scarf for his dog. 



MARISSA

Marissa read Act I, Scene I in "Comedy of Errors" for her Shakespeare class.  That is the play they will be performing in May.  

She also had auditions for "Aladdin Jr" this week and is waiting to find out which part she will be playing.  

Marissa wants to be a vet when she grows up.  She decided she needed to practice operating and chose to use kinetic sand to practice making cuts.

CALEB

Caleb learned about life in space in his Heroic Youth class this week.  He loved learning all about eating, sleeping and working in space.  

Caleb also learned about airplanes this week and spent some time launching paper airplanes to see how well they could fly.  He also helped make gnocchis for his family dinner.

December 19 - January 6

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston earned his sword for his Sword of Freedom class and started a new semester in his Heroes class (studying WWI & WWII).  

Preston also put together several Lego sets over the Christmas break.  He also worked on filming and editing for his tech class and published a few videos on his YouTube channel.  




MARISSA

Marissa read "Freedom Factor" for her Key of Liberty class over the break.  She loved it and they had the book discussion this week.  

Marissa also built a really fun Disney princess castle out of Legos over the Christmas break.    



CALEB

Caleb built several cool Lego sets over the Christmas break.  He also has been reading a lot.  He still loves reading picture books.  His favorite series is "Curious George."  He also finished two more "Maple Ridge" books.

December 12 - 16

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished up classes at Polar Star.  He read "Up From Slavery" and had a book discussion in his Georgics class.

Preston has been working a lot on math this week.  He is working on pre-Algebra/Algebra right now.   


MARISSA

Marissa finished classes at Polar Star.  Her final book for Key of Liberty was "Being George Washington."  She finished the book and had a book discussion in class.  

Marissa has been working on language arts and math.  She's been reading "Misty of Chincoteague."  She really likes reading books about animals, and especially is enjoying reading a book about horses.  

She and Caleb have also been playing lots of games lately.  This week, they played the United States game and worked on learning states and their capitals. 



CALEB

Caleb has been working on language arts and handwriting.  He also completes math lessons every day.  He's also been reading the "Maple Ridge" series.  

Caleb and Marissa also had their choir concert this week.  They did such a great job!



OTHER

LIVE NATIVITY

We attended a live nativity this week.  The kids learned to write their name in Hebrew, played a dredel game, learned to weave and bake bread, made an oil lamp, learned carpentry skills and more.  It was such a great experience!

December 5 - 9

 WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

PRESTON

Preston finished reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" and had a book discussion in his Sword of Freedom class.  He really loved the book!

He also gave a presentation about his Georgics project in class.  He learned how to sew handkerchiefs and did a slide show and presentation talking about what he did and what he learned throughout the semester.  

MARISSA

Marissa finished memorizing the Declaration of Independence.  This was not an easy task and she was so proud of herself for finishing a couple weeks before the semester ended.  


MARISSA and PRESTON

Marissa and Preston had the opportunity to participate in a service project with youth from Polar Star who live in the the Layton and Kaysville area.  They made small trees and delivered them to elderly people who cannot get out.  They sang Christmas carols and visited with them for a few minutes.  They also had the opportunity to shovel their walkways since it snowed the day they delivered the trees.  What a great experience!  They ended off the night eating soup, hot chocolate and going to see the lights in Layton.  








CALEB

Caleb had a day of science in his Heroic Youth class.  He blew up a balloon with baking soda and vinegar and then blew out a candle with the gas from the experiment.  He learned about how strong the shape of a dome is and tried to crush an egg with his bare hand.  It was a fun day filled with science experiments! 





OTHER

SNOW

We took advantage of snow and headed to the park to get in some sledding!
